I am currently in Amman, Jordan, and will be back in Iraq before morning. I cannot express our sincere pleasure in watching our daughter grow, learn, and practice in a setting conducive to learning. The Select Camp is exceptional and I was pleased with your selection of staff, instruction, intuition, and southern charm.  It is why we keep coming back again and again as you have found the niche for fastpitch. Watching the instruction and on-field practical application I applaud ya’ll in getting the most out of today’s teenager. Incredibly as it may sound; yes, they can get up in the morning; yes, they will listen; yes, they are just teenagers; and, finally, yes, every one of them are thrilled about being at Higher Ground. I was impressed with the attitude and desire of the players as well, not only did they get along, encouraged each other to act appropriately, play tricks on each other and their coaches, and above all, ‘play ball.’ Again, from the bottom of my heart to all of y’all at Higher Ground, thanks a million and please, pass on a special thank you to each and every member of your staff for me.

The people I met, and things I did at camp have changed my life. I have become more confident, a better listener, and I can deal with people much easier. The coaches treated me as an adult and I grew from those experiences. Higher Ground inspired me to go for it all. I know I will fail, but I have learned to accept failure. We can only learn from our mistakes to become better. Not only did softball camp encourage me to succeed on the field, it also encouraged me to succeed in the classroom. To play college ball you have to have excellent grades. Looking back, Higher Ground Softball has shaped me into the player that I am today. I can still picture the stadium where I met my best friends, where I learned about the game, and where I became a better person.

My daughter just completed her 2nd year at West Point. I remember when we both attended Higher Ground camp in Columbus. Just thought I’d update you and let you know that the life lessons you teach do not fall on deaf ears. She doesn’t play softball anymore. She now plays for Women’s Army Rugby and was invited to try for the All-American Team her very first year.  I share this to let you know that I appreciate that you teach more than pitching at an elite level… you teach these girls to LIVE at an elite level and to always push their bodies, minds and spirits for the best they can give.  Thanks!

Thank you for the wonderful opportunity for my daughter to be involved in Higher Ground. She has enjoyed the experience very much. We would both therefore like to thank you very much for your assistance and guidance since meeting you at that very first camp. It was experience that had a huge effect on her and where she wanted to go in terms of her softball. I must say her attendance was instrumental in her desire to play college ball. We thank you providing her the inspiration.

Thanks for always including me in these wonderful newsletters. Sometimes I feel like we are either having a conversation or you have a secret camera pointed at my life to know what I need. Either way, I appreciate your remarks.

I have not had the opportunity to thank you for the time you spent with my daughter last week. There are not many times that you really think someone makes a real measurable impression, but I promise it did with my daughter. I have seen so many times that an instructor tries to over coach an athlete when they ask for help. What you provided was a vision to my daughter to help herself now and in the future.

Words cannot express my gratitude for the opportunities you have laid before me. I just wanted to say that within the past year, I have been exposed to more possibilities and exciting people than I ever thought possible. Your nomination of me to the Player Advisory Board has presented me with such fine young women who I can truly relate to – in both determination and mentality. I can assuredly call them my friends. It has also exposed me to a world where even I can make a difference in the softball community. It is a wonderful feeling to be a part of a tradition founded by figureheads such as yourself and your fellow coaches. But most importantly, thank you for believing in me. The attention and work I experienced at Higher Ground has made me feel that I can achieve anything – now I know I can. Thank you, because you were the first coach that instead of looking upon me as inferior saw me as an equal. And now I know how to keep this belief alive – by “getting better every day!”

I loved the clinic! I have soooo much energy for softball again. I lost it about a month ago because I let those “I cant’s” get to me; you’ve taught me that “I can”…it was all around the best clinic EVER.

My daughter attended numerous Higher Ground camps and they inspired her to be the best she could be. She will always credit Higher Ground for helping her to persevere and work hard to achieve goals. Higher Ground is a great stepping-stone to great rewards in softball.

I just wanted to say thank you for sending me a replacement copy of your book.  I just finished the book and I have to say that it was the best book on hitting that I’ve read.  I have many videos and books on hitting and have studied the art of hitting for 20 years now. I played fastpitch at a very high level of competition for almost all of those 20 years and after reading your book, I’m thinking of making a comeback! Just very sound and easy to follow instruction. Since implementing some of your techniques and thoughts on hitting, I have seen major improvements in my varsity players’ techniques and approaches to hitting. I can’t wait to start the season.  Explosive Hitting is the BOMB!

I really look forward to your “Thought for Tuesday” email. Thank you for sending it! I always forward it to my fellow Elders at church. Your comments often have the uncanny ability to speak clearly to an issue we are discussing and add relevance to the decision. Thank you!

I am writing from St. Croix where a clinic was held years ago. I just wanted to let you know that you have touched me, my athletes, and my family in a very special way. Thanks to God for blessing you with the ability to reach out and touch many of us that would probably be stumbling along. It never seems to fail that the one day when I am down an e-mail arrives from you with quotes and words of encouragement. Thanks.

I met some really amazing people through Higher Ground over the years and I still have some girls that I keep in touch with. And when I got to college, it was pretty neat to play against some of the girls I’d met through camps. The Columbus camp was such an awesome time in my life…I always cried when I left!! I just graduated cum laude from college. Thanks so much for everything you’ve done for me and every other ball player out there. You’ve given a ton of people opportunities they may never have had otherwise.

With regard to the technical clinic you put on for the PWSA in Toronto this past weekend, I wish to commend you on a job well done. You put everything in simplistic terms, easily understood by all those present. I personally learned a lot from your clinic, particularly how to get a message across to athletes. You did everything in a very professional manner and your use of humor certainly added to the success of the evening.

What I have come to realize after my second summer with Higher Ground is that it really would not matter if all my girls were playing summer ball – this works and it makes sense…Our first summer we won only two games but one was our first game of the tournament when we knocked off a team who had beat us twice before that week – the girls had never been prouder of themselves.

Our daughter received and accepted a softball scholarship from (strong DI school) on Monday afternoon.  We want to thank you for making this possible. It was that first camp with you many years ago when she was the smallest kid there that started her on this dream. Thanks again to you and your staff.

Thanks for the Thought For Tuesday. It is helping me a lot in sports.

Recently, I purchased your DVD’s to aid in my instruction on our local High School Team. I am a volunteer Coach with over 20 years of experience coaching baseball. Girls Fastpitch softball was new to me as of last spring when my daughter decided to play on highly competitive travel team. Needless to say, I came to love the game and the athletes that participated. I wanted to learn more and help where I am able. I had much success in coaching baseball, so when our high school asked me to help as an assistant coach, I jumped. I wrote a college coach that I knew for a few pointers. She recommended that I visit your website and that I would find everything that I wanted. She was absolutely correct. As a coach, I believe all coaches should be students of the game, as well as a faithful and spiritual leader of people. Your DVD’s have helped me and my players. Thanks for helping me help build my players into confident athletes and responsible people.

That might be the thought for a lifetime.  Thanks so much for sharing.

I have been a fan of yours for a while…I really like the “A Thought For Tuesday” and have my own E-mailing list to pass it on. Although not coaching softball anymore, I still like the analogy that I can also use in everyday life. Keep up the good work

I feel so blessed for having known you and the family that is Higher Ground. I hope that many more girls will come to find that they can accomplish whatever goal they set their mind to, and that anything is possible. God has bestowed me with such blessings in my life and I only wish to bring glory to Him by allowing His spirit to work through me

Just wanted to let you know that I just came back from the European Championship Tournament for Club Teams. Before I had no time to read the last 10-15 “Thoughts for Tuesday” so I printed them and took them with me to Prague.  I had a great time reading them at the hotel and sharing them to our players. I hang one (about the power of a smile) in the dugout…Finally we got the best result ever. Maybe your “thoughts” helped us with this – so keep smiling!!!

I just want to thank you for all you have done for the game of softball. You and your camps have made so many players, teams, and coaches better. I know that my teams have gotten better because of your camps. I just wanted you to know how much you are appreciated too.

I had an awesome time, even though I was worn out when it was over. Now I have PASSION for softball.

I really appreciate these little messages…there is always something in there for me personally or for my team. THANKS! By the way…I’ve been coaching for over 20 years at the collegiate level…we never hit very well until I adopted most of what you teach in a little book calledImproved Hitting for Girls Softball…about 5 years ago it became the foundation of my hitting philosophy and we are seeing much improvement. I still read lots of articles on hitting but I keep coming back to the simple basics you presented in that little book. Thanks for sharing and helping us to be better in all that we do.

None of our players have stopped talking about the great experiences and new friends they met. All the girls made us promise to make your camp an annual trip.

I just wanted to thank you SO much! My daughters had the best time. In fact, they said it was the best time of their whole life. They called me every night, not because they missed me, but because they were afraid they would forget to tell me something they had learned.

Just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate your ” Thoughts ” They keep me in touch with what I am trying to achieve.

Thanks again for the great coaching clinic. I picked up a dozen or more coaching techniques, which must have been effective because I won a championship as a rookie manager.

Thanks for taking the time to come to Cary for our clinic last weekend. Everyone that attended has indicated that the instruction was excellent. One coach said that he had made the first mistake of the season by not requiring all of his coaches and players to attend.

Thanks for dropping me a line all the time. It seems that whenever I get down and things are looking bad I receive another reminder to reach for higher ground. I mention it to my girls all the time and they are puzzled with me but I know the message will get thru to them. Keep up the good work and may you continue to prosper, as we all will when we reach for higher ground.

I always enjoy reading your newsletters, but this one couldn’t have come at a better time. I was just contemplating a decision I made over the summer to cut one of my players who lied and betrayed me throughout last season…your newsletter hit me right between the eyes.

Top NCAA Division I Coach

I just wanted to take a moment and say thanks for the newsletter you send. Even though I am not coaching full time right now, I still use a lot of things you write about in my classroom. I applaud your values and your witness for Christ.

I really enjoy reading the newsletters. I forward them to many of my friends that I played ball with and some of the parents of the kids that I give lessons…I guess mainly to those folks that I think will get as much out of them mentally and spiritually as I do. I guess that I really just wanted to say THANK YOU! I’m sure you hope that everyone that reads the newsletter gets something out of it, but I just want to let you know they touched me at a time in my life when I was really questioning a lot of things emotionally, spiritually, and athletically.

I wanted to let you know just how much you and Higher Ground camps mean to me. I look back on those times with such fondness; and the memories bring a smile to my face every time. Not only did I improve my game, but the atmosphere and attitude you promote at the camps is so great that I am inspired to try my best on and off the field. Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to be in the company of great people and gain experiences that will last me a lifetime. Keep up the phenomenal work.

We would like to Thank ALL for the time spent and the help. Our daughter is sad that this is her last year with the HIGHER GROUND CAMP.  I would like to THANK everyone who touched her life and softball play.  She is so much improved by her play and coaching through the HIGHER GROUND CAMP.
